The Life and Times of Pluto

Astronomy has a fascinating and ongoing history. As planets are discovered around other stars, our understanding of the universe and our place within it changes. But we don’t need to look to other stars to understand the impact of astronomical discoveries. Just take our own Pluto. Pluto was discovered, uncovered as the outcast in the solar family, and reclassified as a dwarf planet. Some people like the change, some are indifferent, and some get really angry and protest. Vintage Space has a brief history of the life and times of Pluto. (Left, Pluto and its moons Charon, Nix, and Hydra as seen by the Hubble Space telescope.)
